In setting up “fence laws” to keep people from working on the Sabbath, the Pharisees failed to understand the most important fact about the Sabbath—God’s reason for creating it. When we understand God’s reasons for His commandments, we are much more apt to keep the spirit of the law, and not just the letter.

Jesus instructed His twelve disciples to go into Galilee to preach the gospel without taking provision with them. They had to trust God as they went. How their faith contrasts with the faith of many today, who try to convince us of their great faith by all that they possess!
