Although Jesus preached many sermons and did many miracles in Galilee, He was, for the most part rejected by people who have since surely regretted their foolish decision. Jesus continues to extend His gracious invitation today, but hard-hearted people continue to make the same tragic error.

Through Elijah and Elisha’s ministries, God bypassed Jews to minister to Gentiles. Jesus reminded His audience in Nazareth of those undeniable facts, and they tried to murder Him.

The second miracle that rabbinic tradition taught could only be performed by the Messiah was the miracle of casting out demon that made someone deaf and mute. It appears that Jesus intentionally performed such a miracle just to challenge Israel’s religious leaders. Their response was tragic.

Jesus grieved for a time at the loss of His forerunner, relative and friend, John the Baptist. But before too long, Jesus returned to His ministry. His example is a good one for us to follow during our times of grief.
