“Juan estaba vestido de pelo de camello, tenía un cinto de cuero alrededor de su cintura, y su comida era langostas y miel silvestre” ( Mateo 3:4).
Juan ciertamente no encajaba en la representación actual del moderno ” predicador de prosperidad”. De hecho, estos predicadores nunca dejarían a un hombre como Juan subir a las plataformas de sus iglesias porque él no habla acerca dele éxito. Sin embargo, Juan era un verdadero hombre de Dios que no estaba interesado en hacerse tesoros en la tierra o en impresionar a la gente con su apariencia exterior, sabiendo que Dios miraba su corazón. Él vivió simplemente, y su vida no era causa de tropiezo para nadie, pues se podía ver que sus motivaciones no eran el dinero. Cómo contrasta esto con muchos ministros modernos alrededor del mundo, que usan el evangelio primeramente para ganancias personales. Y así como ellos representan mal a Jesús, hacen un gran daño a la causa de Jesús.
La tercera cualidad de Juan que contribuyó para que él fuera el predicador favorito de Jesús era ésta: Juan vivió con simpleza

Aunque Juan era usado poderosamente por Dios y se hizo muy popular entre las multitudes él sabía que no se comparaba en nada a Jesús, y por eso él siempre exaltó al Señor:
“Yo a la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento, pero el que viene tras mí, cuyo calzado yo no soy digno de llevar, es más poderoso que yo. Él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego” ( Mateo 3:11).
Como es de diferente el aprecio que tiene Juan por sí mismo, en contraste a la arrogancia que con mucha frecuencia se encuentra en los “ministros” de hoy en día. Las famosas revistas de ministerios contienen fotos de ellos en cada página, mientras que Jesús se menciona escasamente. Ellos desfilan como pavos reales a través de la plataforma de la iglesia, exaltándose a sí mismos en los ojos de sus seguidores. Ellos son intocables e inaccesibles, llenos de importancia únicamente para ellos mismos. Algunos inclusive le da órdenes a los ángeles y a Dios. Al contrario, Juan no se sentía digno de llevar el calzado de Jesús, lo que sería considerado como una acto de un esclavo. Juan no quería bautizar a Jesús cuando Jesús vino a él , y cuando se dio cuenta que Jesús era el Cristo, inmediatamente se dirigió a Él declarándole, ” Éste es el cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo” ( Juan 1:29). “Es necesario que Él crezca y que yo disminuya” ( Juan 3:30). Debemos ser humildes como Juan.
Ésta era la sexta cualidad de Juan que lo hizo ser el predicador favorito de Jesús: Juan se humillaba así mismo y exaltaba a Jesús. Él no tenía deseos de ser exaltado.
